STORY:    NORTHAM GILLESPIE POLL

REPORTER:    DEMLEIN

SOUND WITH:     RACHEL BITECOFER (BIT-EH-COUGH-ER)--  CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY

CONTACT NUMBER: (If available)

=====================================================================

STORY DETAILS:  CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY'S NEW POLL IN THE GOVERNOR'S RACE APPEARS TO SHOW A LITTLE BIT OF TIGHTENING.   DEMOCRAT RALPH NORTHAM LEADS REPUBLICAN ED GILLESPIE 48-44, WHICH IS WITHIN THE 4.2% MARGIN OF ERROR.  THE POLL LAST WEEK HAD THE RACE 47-41 IN FAVOR OF NORTHAM.  CNU'S RACHEL BITECOFER SAYS THEY WILL NEED NEXT WEEK'S POLL RESULTS AS WELL TO KNOW IF THE RACE IS TRULY TIGHTENING.   SHE SAYS, AT LEAST PRELIMINARILY, IT APPEARS GILLESPIE'S NEGATIVE MS-13/ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION ADS ARE HAVING AN EFFECT.   A ROANOKE COLLEGE POLL JUST RELEASED HAS NORTHAM UP 50-44.
