SENATOR MARK WARNER ISN'T MINCING WORDS.  THE DEMOCRAT, CALLING THE PROPOSED GRAHAM-CASSIDAY HEALTH CARE BILL A DISASTER.  THE BILL WOULD  WOULD REPEAL THE INDIVIDUAL AND EMPLOYER MANDATES AND WOULD BLOCK GRANT THE FEDERAL FUNDING FOR MEDICAID EXPANSION.  WARNER SAYS IT COULD COST VIRGINIA BILLIONS OF DOLLARS.   KAINE ALSO SAYS DEMOCRATS WERE IGNORED IN THE PROCESS.  THE BILL NEEDS TO BE PASSED BY SEPTEMBER 30TH TO AVOID NEEDING 60 VOTES IN THE SENATE TO PASS.  THE REASON IS THAT IT IS BEING DONE THROUGH THE BUDGET RECONCILLIATION PROCESS.

A WORKING SMOKE ALARM MAY HAVE SAVED TWO LIVES IN A CHESTERFIELD HOUSE FIRE.

THE CHESTERFIELD COUNTY FIRE AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES RESPONDING TO A HOUSE FIRE IN WHICH THE HOME OWNER WAS ALERTED THANKS TO SMOKE ALARMS

IT HAPPENED EARLY THURSDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER 21 IN THE 16400 BLOCK OF CLOVER HILL ROAD FOR THE REPORT OF A HOUSE FIRE. SMOKE ALARMS AWOKE THE HOME OWNER , WHO WAS SLEEPING. THE HOME OWNER SAW FLAMES ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE EXTENDING UP TO THE ROOFLINE. IT TOOK THE FIRE CREWS ALMOST TWO HOURS TO GET THE FIRE UNDER CONTROL. THE HOUSE SUFFERED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE.

THE CHESTERFIELD COUNTY FIRE MARSHAL'S OFFICE DETERMINED THE FIRE STARTED IN A TRASH CAN BECAUSE OF CHARCOAL FROM A GRILL BEING PLACED IN THE CAN, IGNITING COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS. TWO ADULTS WERE DISPLACED AND ARE BEING ASSISTED BY FAMILY MEMBERS. THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED.

TRAILS AT DOUTHAT (DOW-THUT) STATE PARK IN BATH COUNTY WILL REMAIN CLOSED THROUGH THE WEEKEND. THIS, ACCORDING TO SPOKESMAN JIM MEISNER (M-EYE-SNER), JUNIOR, COMING AFTER A WOMAN WAS ATTACKED BY A BLACK BEAR EARLIER THIS WEEK. SHE WAS BADLY WOUNDED ON BOTH LEGS, BUT WAS ABLE TO WALK OUT OF THE PARK AND CALL FOR HELP.  SHE'S EXPECTED TO MAKE A FULL RECOVERY. THEY'RE TAKING EVERY EFFORT TO CATCH THE BEAR. A CDC REPORT SHOWS SLEEPING WITH CONTACT LENSES IN IS THE MOST COMMON OFFENSE REPORTED BY THOSE WHO WEAR THEM. 

DR. DOCTOR ALLISON BABIUCH [[ BAB-ITCH ]] SAYS PEOPLE WHO SLEEP IN THEIR LENSES ARE AT INCREASED RISK FOR EYE INFECTIONS AND OTHER THINGS.
