STORY:        GOSHEN PASS FIRE

REPORTER:    JDS

SOUND WITH:     VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY SPOKESMAN JOHN CAMPBELL

CONTACT NUMBER: (If available)

=====================================================================

A FIRE THAT STARTED MONDAY HAS CONSUMED 5-HUNDRED ACRES AND IS CURRENTLY ONLY 20 PERCENT CONTAINED IS BURNING AT GOSHEN (GO-shinn) PASS IN ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: JOHN CAMPBELL IS WITH THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY AND HE SAYS THAT THE FIRE IS EXPECTED TO BURN FOR ANOTHER DAY OR TWO BEFORE SCORCHING BETWEEN 1-AND-2 THOUSAND ACRES BEFORE FINALLY BEING CONTAINED.   THERE ARE NO STRUCTURES BEING THREATENED BY THE FIRE SINCE IT IS A CONTROLLED WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA.   THE WINDS HAVE BEEN FAIRLY LIGHT DURING THE FIGHTING OF THIS FIRE AND CAMPBELL SAYS THAT THE PROBLEM THEY'RE FACING IS THAT IT'S VERY ROCKY AND TERRAIN IS VERY STEEP.   HUMIDITY LEVELS ARE LOW AND THAT'S ALSO HELPING THE FIRE SPREAD TO LEAVES ON THE GROUND.   THE GOOD NEWS IS THE FIRE ISN'T BURNING VERY HOT.  CAMPBELL DESCRIBES IT AS A LOW AND SLOW FIRE.

STORY:    RS SETTLEMENT - ANALYSIS

REPORTER:    DEMLEIN

SOUND WITH:  SCOTT GOODMAN -- LEGAL ANALYST BASED IN CHARLOTTESVILLE

CONTACT NUMBER: (If available)

=====================================================================

STORY DETAILS:  A LEGAL ANALYST BASED IN CHARLOTTESVILLE SAYS THERE IS A GOOD REASON ROLLING STONE AND UVA DEAN NICOLE ERAMO DECIDED TO SETTLE RATHER THAN GOING FORWARD WITH AN APPEAL OF HER THREE-MILLION DOLLAR DEFAMATION VERDICT WIN.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: ANALYST SCOTT GOODMAN SAYS BOTH SIDES AT RISK:  ERAMO, THAT SHE COULD LOSE PART OR ALL ON APPEAL, AND ROLLING STONE, THAT THEY COULD LOSE ON APPEAL AS WELL.  TERMS OF THE SETTLEMENT ARE CONFIDENTIAL, ALLOWING BOTH SIDES TO CLAIM SOME SENSE OF VICTORY.  HOWEVER, GOODMAN SAYS GIVEN IT WAS A SETTLEMENT, IT IS LIEKLY ERAMO GOT LESS THAN THE THREE MILLION SHE WON AT TRIAL.   ERAMO SUED OVER HER PROTRAYL IN A NOW DISCREDITED  ARTICLE ABOUT AN ALLEGED GANG RAPE AT UVA.
