STORY:   AARP GOP

REPORTER:    POWELL 24/7

SOUND WITH:     AARP LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL DAVID CERTNER

CONTACT NUMBER: (If available)

=====================================================================

THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF RETIRED PERSONS (AARP) IS TAKING AIM AT THE NEW GOP HEALTH CARE BILL, SAYING IT WILL IMPACT VIRGINIAS SENIORS IN A VERY NEGATIVE WAY.

A LOT OF OLDER VIRGINIANS ARE MEMBERS OF AARP. THEY LIKE THAT THE ORGANIZATION LOOKS OUT FOR SENIORS AND THEIR INTERESTS.  AARP LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL DAVID CERTNER SAYS THE REPUBLICAN REPLACEMENT BILL WILL DRAMATICALLY SPIKE PREMIUMS FOR OLDER VIRGINIANS. CERTNER SAYS THE BILL WILL ALSO REDUCE MEDICARE FUNDING.  HE ADDS THAT IT WILL THREATEN THE CARE OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND POOR SENIORS WHO CAN'T AFFORD MEDICAID. THE PLAN IS STRONGLY SUPPORTED BY PRESIDENT TRUMP AND CONGRESSIONAL REPUBLICAN LEADERS.    AARP JOINS THE AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION, THE AMERICAN HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION, DEMOCRATS AND SOME CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS LIKE VIRGINIA'S DAVE BRATT  IN THEIR OPPOSITION TO THE TRUMPCARE PLAN
